From Clay to Kiln

Shape & Decorate

Starting with porcelain or stoneware clay, we wedge it to remove air, roll it into slabs, then apply impressed and added decoration. Cups and bowls are made using handbuilding and press moulding techniques.

Bisque Fire

Once dried, each piece goes into the kiln for its first firing — the bisque fire — reaching over 1,000 degrees to harden the clay and prepare it for glazing.

Glaze & Fire Again

Items are decorated using glazes and oxides, then fired a second time in a glaze firing between 1,000 and 1,300 degrees, bringing the colours and textures to life.

Finishing Touches

The final step transforms fired pieces into finished products — mounting into frames, adding magnet or brooch fittings, assembling coaster sets, and quality checking every piece.

Our Process

What We Make

At McCluskey Pottery, we create a wide range of handcrafted porcelain and stoneware pieces. From framed tiles featuring Celtic designs and Irish landscapes, to functional cups, bowls, and coasters — each piece is made by hand in our Limavady workshop.

Our collection includes decorative magnets and brooches, seasonal pieces, and jewellery — all crafted with the same care and attention to detail that has defined McCluskey Pottery for over two decades.
